work with a view

Both the SFU campuses that I've visited are so well thought out in terms of offering numerous varied spaces for students (or anyone) to work in. And they're used. Any time of day or night it's not busy (being the quiet summer term) but there are still a small scattering of people in rooms, seated areas tucked off corridors, and outside spaces like the one I found, looking North. Access to public areas is fluid and easy and it's easy to imagine spending time here just quietly getting more and more involved in your own field of study.

Being Canada Day today was especially quiet, and sunny! So I made the most of the peace to work in the studio making sure I have made all the mp3s I need for the piece I'm making. And then working outside in the sun, my laptop faking life as a windows pc once again whilst I'm remapping regions from North Somerset's Sand Point to the Academic Quadrant of Simon Fraser University, here at Burnaby Mountain, a re-worked soundlines installation exploring sounds of the world sound project mapped into this space - three decades of recordings, two continents, what walks will we make with them?
